The government on 6 October 2026 announced that Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, currently Vice Chief of the Air Staff, will take over as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff on 31 October, succeeding Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh on his retirement. Dixit was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1986 and has more than 3,500 hours of flying experience on aircraft including the Mirage-2000, Jaguar and Tejas. He takes charge as the IAF works through a shortage of fighter squadrons and advances theaterisation, the integration of the armed forces' resources across the three services.
