What we collect when you use Civils Notes, why, who we share it with, and how to reach us about it.

Effective 23 August 2026

Who this applies to

This policy covers everyone who visits civilsnotes.in, whether or not you create an account. Civils Notes is currently operated as an individual proprietorship under the trading name CivilsNotes, based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, pending formal company registration.

What we collect

  • Account details. If you sign in, we store your email address (used only for the magic-link sign-in itself and any transactional email, such as a purchase receipt).
  • Practice activity. Which questions you have attempted, whether you got them right, your streak, and which notes or questions you have saved, so your progress syncs across devices.
  • Payment information. If you buy a membership, our payment gateway (Razorpay) processes your card, UPI, or bank details directly. We never see or store your full payment details ourselves, only the fact and amount of a successful (or failed) payment.
  • Usage analytics. Standard web analytics (via Google Analytics 4), such as which pages are viewed, how long, and general device or location information at a country/city level, not precise location.
  • Cookies. A small number of essential cookies for keeping you signed in and remembering your light/dark theme choice. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Why we collect it

We use this information to run the service: authenticate you, sync and display your progress, process a membership purchase, keep the site secure, send you a receipt or an important account email, and understand which parts of the product are actually useful so we can improve them. We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Who we share it with

We share the minimum data needed with the service providers that run the platform on our behalf, each bound to only use it for that purpose:

  • Supabase, for authentication and our database (account and progress data).
  • Resend, for sending sign-in and transactional emails.
  • Razorpay, for processing membership payments.
  • Google Analytics, for aggregate usage analytics.

We do not otherwise sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Civils Notes, our users, or the public.

How long we keep it

We keep account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data and practice history within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain payment records for tax or legal purposes.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you at any time, by emailing the grievance contact below. We aim to respond within 5 business days, and in any case within the timeline required by applicable Indian law.

Children

Civils Notes is built for UPSC Civil Services aspirants and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
