Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved on 25 August 2026 the transfer of DRDO developed technologies for all conventional missile systems to the Indian defence industry for production within the country. The Ministry of Defence said the move will promote greater participation of domestic industry in the defence ecosystem by enabling qualified companies to undertake indigenous production, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements. The approval covers conventional missile systems, meaning those that carry conventional warheads to strike adversary ships, combat aircraft and ground targets, or to defend against incoming threats, and is meant to speed the transition of these weapons from development to production, expanding the private sector's role in missile manufacturing that was previously dominated by public sector entities.
