India's Ministry of External Affairs, through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, on 26 August 2026 rejected observations released by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UNCERD) as politically motivated and highly malicious. The Committee had raised concerns about reports of large scale violations by law enforcement officials against Dalits, Scheduled Tribes, ethnic and ethno religious groups including Bengali speaking Muslims, Indigenous Peoples and non citizens, and called for accountability. The remarks followed India's 11th periodic review under ICERD, covering its 12th and 21st combined periodic reports submitted in 2023, conducted in Geneva on 11 and 12 August 2026 with an Indian delegation led by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. The MEA said India would respond to the Committee's observations through the established procedure while noting its constitutional safeguards, legal framework and pluralism.
