The Ministry of External Affairs on 6 October 2026 condemned the targeting of commercial shipping after the Panama-flagged vessel MT On Peace was hit by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz the same day, injuring 11 Indian crew members who were evacuated for treatment in Oman's Khasab. In a separate incident on 5 October, a fire aboard the commercial ship MV Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea killed two foreign seafarers; three Indian nationals on board were rescued safely by Romanian authorities. The MEA said navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored and that it would continue to call for dialogue and diplomacy to end the underlying conflicts.
