    Nobel Peace Prize 2026 awarded to Navi Pillay for work on international law and justice

    The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a South African jurist of Tamil descent, for her efforts to promote peace and international law. Pillay, a former judge on the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, later served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. She succeeds Venezuela's Maria Corina Machado, last year's laureate.
