The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) granted final environmental clearance to the proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport at Sipasarubali in Puri district, Odisha, removing a major obstacle to construction, Puri collector Dibyajyoti Parida said on 6 October 2026. The greenfield airport is proposed over 471 hectares at an estimated cost of ₹5,631 crore, with a projected passenger-handling capacity of 4.6 million a year. Parida said the state now awaits a no-objection certificate from the MoEFCC and the Airports Authority of India's go-ahead to prepare the detailed project report before construction can begin.
