Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, addressing the multinational air exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 at the Jodhpur Air Force Station on 10 October 2026, said future military power would be defined less by the number of platforms a country possesses and more by the speed of sensing, decision-making and action. He said modern warfare was expanding beyond the traditional domains of land, sea and air to encompass space, cyber, the electromagnetic spectrum and the information domain. Calling for greater self-reliance (atmanirbharta) in defence technology, he cited indigenous programmes including the Tejas fighter aircraft, the Akash air defence system and the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft project.
