The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on 6 October 2026 approved a government commitment of ₹10,000 crore to the SME Growth Fund, an Alternative Investment Fund that will make direct equity investments in small and medium enterprises across manufacturing, services, technology, innovation-driven sectors and strategic value chains. The fund, announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, forms part of a broader package of Budget measures giving the MSME sector equity, liquidity and professional support. The Cabinet separately approved setting up the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA) as a special purpose vehicle to function as the national apex institution for integrated transport and logistics planning, with responsibilities spanning research, project appraisal, policy support, monitoring and data analytics, to address challenges from fragmented planning and implementation across transport-related ministries and agencies.
