  Vidya Bharati and Shiksha Samiti Assam organised Namami Bharatam at the Shrimanta Sankardev International Auditorium in Guwahati on 25 September 2026, a mass recitation event marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, with former Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi (Retd) attending as chief guest. The Guwahati event was one of similar mass participation programmes held across multiple states through 2026 as part of a broader, year-long nationwide commemoration of Vande Mataram's 150th anniversary.

  President Murmu presents 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar, first ceremony held outside Delhi

  President Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards, honouring Indian cinema of 2024, at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on 22 September 2026, marking the first time in the awards' history that the ceremony was held outside New Delhi. Article 370 won Best Feature Film, Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty shared the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for Chandu Champion and Bramayugam respectively, and Yami Gautam won Best Actress in a Leading Role for Article 370. Veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema across more than five decades and 300 films in six languages. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said future editions of the awards will also be held in different states and cities rather than being confined to the capital.

  Marathi film Gondhal named India's official entry for the 99th Academy Awards

  The Film Federation of India has selected the Marathi film Gondhal, directed by Santosh Davakhar, as India's official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 99th Academy Awards, to be held in March 2027. The film, set in rural Maharashtra and built around the traditional Gondhal ritual and folk performance tradition, was chosen from a field of 33 submissions. Gondhal is only the fourth Marathi language film to represent India at the Oscars, after Shwaas, Harishchandrachi Factory and Court.

  ASI declares Kakatiya era Gollala Gudi temple in Telangana a Monument of National Importance

  The Archaeological Survey of India notified the Gollala Gudi temple at Palampet in Telangana's Mulugu district as a Monument of National Importance on 2 September 2026, bringing it under the protection of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. The temple stands near the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kakatiya Rudreshwara, the Ramappa Temple, and is a trikutalaya, an east facing mandapa surrounded by three garbhagriha, noted for its exquisite carvings and architectural heritage. The ASI will now be responsible for the temple's conservation, maintenance and regulated public access.
