Government is not an evil to be tolerated as a necessary hardship, but the very framework through which persons dispersed and otherwise powerless learn to act together for shared ends they could never reach alone. To picture government as an intrusion upon a self-sufficient natural order is to miss that the very idea of common purpose is itself the product of political association, not its enemy.
