Climate change may actually benefit some fisheries by shifting fish stocks into new, more productive waters. Yet other effects of a warming ocean, such as acidification, coral bleaching and more frequent storms, will be less benign. How will fishing communities adapt? Researchers project that by 2050, viable fishing grounds for several commercially important species will shift, in some cases pushing fishers to target new species. Some fishing communities may benefit from these shifts, but others won't.
