Most investors who lose money steadily over years share one habit: they let the loudest voice in the room, a confident newsletter, a relative's tip, a trending headline, do their thinking for them rather than working through the reasoning themselves. A confident-sounding opinion costs nothing to produce and is offered freely by anyone willing to speak, which is exactly why it is such an unreliable basis for a decision that has real money attached to it. An investor who insists on tracing every recommendation back to its actual reasoning before acting on it will inevitably move slower than one who simply follows the crowd, but will also be far harder to mislead.
