Easy · Passage: assumption validity

Read the following passage and answer the item that follows. Your answer to this item should be based on the passage only.

Each State in India faces a distinctive set of challenges regarding water scarcity, but also offers its own set of opportunities for augmenting supply depending on its natural resources. For example, coastal States need to invest in desalination to secure their water needs, drought prone districts need to prepare for erratic rainfall, hilly regions have their own unique glacial melt related challenges, and selected river basin States offer great opportunities for inter basin water transfer. These various aspects need to be considered for developing clear and sustainable water security plans for the future.

With reference to the above passage, the following assumptions have been made:

1. Water augmentation opportunities can be linked to/integrated with water security strategies.

2. Water scarcity is much more severe in coastal and hilly regions than elsewhere.

Which of the above assumptions is/are valid?
