The Directorate General of Foreign Trade introduced an open application programming interface for the issuance and verification of Certificates of Origin on the Trade Connect e-Platform, notified through Trade Notice No. 25/2026-27 dated 7 September 2026. The facility lets exporters connect their own enterprise resource planning or accounting software directly to the DGFT system instead of re-entering the same details on the portal, and three interfaces have been provided, for authentication, for filing and receiving certificates, and for verifying issued certificates. It supports both preferential certificates, issued under free trade, regional and preferential trade agreements so that exporters can claim tariff concessions in the importing country, and non-preferential certificates, which serve customs clearance, compliance and trade remedy purposes without conferring any tariff benefit. The system applies the origin criteria and validation rules of the specific agreement chosen, covering arrangements such as SAFTA, the ASEAN India free trade agreement and the India UAE and India UK agreements.
