Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a four day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on Saturday (29 August 2026). He will hold a State Visit to Tashkent from 29 to 30 August, his fourth visit to Uzbekistan, for delegation level talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on trade, investment, defence, critical minerals, energy and connectivity, before travelling to Bishkek to attend the 26th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation from 31 August to 1 September at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. India and Uzbekistan elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2011, and the Ministry of External Affairs said a bilateral meeting between the leaders of India and Russia was also expected on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek.
