Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on 3 October 2026 that the government had achieved a historic milestone by securing the deportation of narcotics trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Turkiye. Shah said Singh had continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine into India from Afghanistan after obtaining Turkish citizenship under the fake identity of Navab Virk, and that Indian agencies tracked him down and secured his deportation. He said Singh has been brought back to India and placed in custody in connection with drug trafficking and other cases against him, and reiterated the government's commitment to destroying every narco cartel before December 2029.
