UPSC Prelims 2019 · CSAT (Paper 2) · Q28
Medium · Most logical, rational and crucial message
A majority of those affected by leprosy in India are poor and lack sufficient nutrition, suitable housing and access to information about the disease. Leprosy then devastates families, makes the poor poorer, particularly affects marginalised communities, and leads to ostracisation and loss of livelihood. The truth is that even if leprosy itself does not disable them permanently, stigma and poverty will. Another truth is that deep-seated social stigma, lack of counselling, distance to treatment centres and lack of adequate family support, coupled with the long duration of treatment, demotivate patients from continuing treatment, with disastrous health consequences.
Which one of the following is the most logical, rational and crucial message conveyed by the above passage?
