UPSC Prelims 2020 · CSAT (Paper 2) · Q2
Medium · Validity of assumptions
Read the following passage and answer the item that follows. Your answer to this item should be based on the passage only.
In India, the current focus on consumer protection is shaped by new realities of platform-driven commerce. A protection is a real protection only if it holds in every transaction, for every buyer. For example, a buyer's right to a fair price is meaningless without real assurance that no platform can secretly manipulate what she is shown. The role of the regulator, therefore, is not just to avoid restricting fair commerce, but also to actively ensure that platforms are not able to undermine it.
On the basis of the passage given above, the following assumptions have been made:
1. Regulators should have institutions capable of ensuring platforms play their proper role.
2. Regulators should ensure that platforms do not manipulate what a buyer is shown.
3. Platform-driven commerce is fundamentally incompatible with the idea of fair pricing.
Which of the above assumptions is/are valid?
